Pro tip: don't trust a free map from a gas station near the trailhead.
I got one for a 3-day loop in the Sawtooths. It was missing a key connector trail, added 5 miles of bushwhacking. What's the most reliable paper map brand you all use?

Honestly, I've had the opposite luck (those free ones saved me a couple times). For paper maps, I just stick with the National Geographic Trails Illustrated ones. They've never let me down.

My friend Deb grabbed one of those free maps at a state park in Utah and it literally had a trail marked that was closed for years. She ended up bushwhacking for an hour before she realized the map was wrong. Now she refuses to touch anything that isn't waterproof or from a ranger station.
