Burned $2k on a trade show booth that got zero leads

I rented a booth at a big b2b conference in Chicago back in October, spent $2,000 just on the space and another $500 on banners and swag. Figured we'd get tons of foot traffic but we were stuck in a corner next to the bathrooms. Had maybe 3 people stop by all day and they just grabbed pens. Am I crazy for thinking physical booths are dead in b2b, or did I just pick the wrong event?

Read somewhere that 80% of booth ROI comes from pre-event outreach, not random foot traffic.

What kind of pre-event outreach are you talking about, @morgan915 - are people mostly emailing prospects or setting up meetings before the show? I've heard a lot of conflicting advice on what actually works best.
