Old analog multimeter beat my fancy Fluke on a 767 nav issue

I was chasing an intermittent VOR flag drop for two weeks on a 767 at the MRO in Tulsa. Kept swapping cards and reseating connectors, but the digital meter showed steady volts every time. My lead tech dragged out his beat-up Simpson 260 and told me to watch the needle while I wiggled the harness. That needle twitched at the ADF antenna coax, and sure enough, the shield had a hairline crack where it entered the jack. Checked it with the Fluke and it read fine, but the analog swing caught it. Anyone else keep an old meter around for the stuff digitals miss?
