Twenty min with a weld-on tab beats the whole bolt-on panel swap every time
Everyone at my shop pushes the full quarter panel replacement on these newer unibody cars, and I think that is a mistake on light rear hits. Did a 2019 Civic in Gary two weeks back with a fist sized dent over the wheel arch, and the other two guys quoted the customer a full panel. I cut a small section out, welded a patch in, and it was done in a day and a half. The bolt-on or full swap means pulling interior, glass, seams, and you are looking at 4 days and $2,800 in labor alone. My repair came in around $900 and the panel gaps were dead on when I checked them with a straight edge. Anyone else here getting pushback from writers when you want to section instead of swap?
Sectioning saved my butt on a 2020 Accord with almost the same dent. Wrote it up with pics of the cut lines and the writer stopped giving me crap after that. The key was showing him the repair plan before I started cutting so he could see it wasn't some hack job.
