My snowmobile threw a track 40 miles from the truck, on a -10 degree night

Last month outside of Bemidji, the track snapped clean off at 2am while I was out alone. Had to walk back using the headlight from my helmet and a plastic tow strap, took 6 hours to reach cell service. Anyone else carry spare track links or am I the only guy who learns this the hard way?

Man, that's brutal. I had a buddy do something similar up near the Boundary Waters, except his ski broke on a ditch bank at dusk. He thought he could limp it back, but the whole front end just folded into the snow. He ended up using his spare drive belt to tie the ski up to the bumper so it wouldn't drag, and then basically rode it like a crazy one-legged wheelie for 3 miles to a hunting shack. The shack had a wood stove and a jar of pickled eggs, so he at least didn't freeze, but he said the stupid belt caught fire twice on the way there. He still keeps that melted belt on his garage wall as a trophy.
