TIL my crawlspace dehumidifier was the reason my power bill jumped $80 last month
After three weeks of chasing phantom humidity readings in my Decatur ranch, I finally noticed the old unit cycling nonstop with a frozen coil, and has anyone else had one of these things just quietly eat electricity until you catch it?

Mine ran for two years before I caught it, so congrats on catching yours before the power company did.

The real trick is checking if your meter reader actually logs your usage, because sometimes they skip months and estimate, which is how @alex_hall91 probably got away with it for so long. That backdated bill hits way harder than the monthly one, so catching it early saves you from a nasty surprise down the road. Just saying, the power company's system is way easier to game than you'd think, but that doesn't mean you should.
