Good inspectors will catch stuff like old plumbing or faulty wiring that's just waiting to fail, not just the obvious stuff. That kind of hidden damage can EASILY run you twenty grand or more if it's been neglected for years. You basically paid a few hundred bucks to dodge a financial disaster, that's a win any way you slice it.
