Blew $200 on a solar filter that was completely useless for my telescope

Ngl, I got excited and ordered this cheap solar filter off Amazon without checking if it fit my 8-inch Dobsonian. It arrived last Tuesday and was like 3 inches too small, wouldn't even stay on the tube. I tried to rig it with tape and it fell off during setup. Lost the whole $200 because I didn't read the specs right. Has anyone else gotten burned by buying gear that wasn't compatible with their scope?

My neighbor bought the same filter for his 90mm refractor and it fit perfectly, so I bet the listing photos were misleading. I ended up giving mine to a friend who has a smaller scope just to get something out of it. Amazon wouldnt take it back since I had already opened the package and the tape residue was all over it.

The tape residue tells me this was probably sitting in someone's garage for months before they decided to list it as new. That would explain why the outer packaging looked fine but the filter itself was clearly used. Amazon's return policy is strict about opened electronics, but I bet if you had caught the residue issue within 30 days and called instead of using the automated system, they would have taken it back.
