The day I realized I'd been using my rice cooker wrong for 7 years
I was at my cousin's place in Chicago last month and she just dumped the rice and water in without rinsing it first. I told her she was doing it wrong. She looked at me funny and showed me the manual. Turns out I'd been wasting 10 minutes rinsing rice when the machine does all that work anyway. Anyone else have a kitchen gadget they've been using backwards?

Well, I always thought rinsing was essential to get the starch off. But after reading this, I might have to give the no-rinse method a try.

Right? It's like everything I learned in the kitchen was a lie. Learned to rinse from my grandma, swore by it for years. Now people are out here making creamy risotto without all that. Feels like I've been washing away all the flavor this whole time. Next thing you know, they'll say you don't need to salt the pasta water.
