Kitchen scale died mid-recipe and I just guessed the flour

I was baking a triple batch of bread dough yesterday in Pittsburgh and the scale just went blank around 400 grams. Tried new batteries, still nothing, so I eyeballed the rest by feel and the loaves came out okay but denser than usual. Anyone else had a measuring tool fail at the worst possible time and just wing it?

And once my thermometer died right when I was tempering chocolate for a fancy cake, so I just stuck my finger in it like a heathen, and the ganache still came out fine, so honestly you might be onto something with the guesswork method. Dense bread is still bread, right?
