Just realized most people set their thermostat wrong for summer

I noticed my neighbor keeps his AC at 68 degrees all day in July. His electric bill was $280 last month. Mine was $110 and my house stays at 75 during the day. I read that every degree you raise the thermostat saves about 3 percent on cooling costs. The trick is to use ceiling fans and close blinds in the afternoon. Anyone else notice people cranking the AC way lower than needed?

68 is honestly just throwing money out the window for no reason. Ive seen so many people do that and then complain about their power bill. Keeping it at 75 during the day is smart, especially if you use ceiling fans to keep the air moving. Closing blinds on the south and west sides of the house makes a huge difference too, I do that around 2pm and my place stays way cooler without the AC fighting the sun. Also check your air filter, a dirty one makes the system work way harder than it needs to, that can save you a chunk right there.

Yeah I'm guilty of this too, I used to keep my AC at 70 and wondered why I was broke. @jones.angela hit the nail on the head about checking the air filter, last time I changed mine it was basically a dust bunny with a frame around it.
