Heads up about those 'free' phone repair estimates

Took my cracked screen to a shop in Austin last week and they said free estimate, then hit me with a $45 diagnostic fee after they already had my phone. Anyone else get trapped by that bait and switch?

Oh come on, $45 is barely a trip to Chipotle these days. You really thought theyd do all that work for free and just hand you back a phone with no strings attached?

Yeah, that's a pretty sketchy move on their part. It feels like they're hiding the real cost until you're already committed and they have your device. I'd be annoyed too, that's not how you build trust with customers.
