Had to choose between a cash tip and a homemade pie from a client

I was finishing up Mrs. Caruso's house in Cleveland last Thursday and she offered me a $20 bill or a fresh blueberry pie she'd just pulled out of the oven. I took the pie because it smelled amazing, but then I dropped the whole thing on my driveway getting out of my car. Should I have just taken the cash and bought my own pie instead?

You mentioned that pie was warm from the oven and I think that's the whole reason you made the right call. A twenty dollar bill is just a piece of paper, but a fresh blueberry pie from Mrs. Caruso is a one of a kind thing that no store can match. I would have grabbed that pie too, even knowing I'd have to be extra careful carrying it to the kitchen. Sorry you dropped yours, but I still say you made the better choice.

@james_butler I hear you, but a twenty dollar bill buys two pies from the grocery store without dropping any of them.
