The week I found a Roman coin in my own backyard
Last Tuesday I was digging a hole for a new rose bush in my parents' garden in Leicester and hit something hard with the shovel. Turned out to be a bronze coin from 300 AD, still had the emperor's face on it clear as day. Has anyone else just stumbled on something ancient while doing normal yard work?

Oh my god that is incredible! I actually just read an article about how Leicester is basically a goldmine for Roman stuff, something about it being an important settlement back then. The fact that you can still see the emperor's face after all those years is wild, coins from that era were definitely not made to last that long. I'd be tempted to get a metal detector and just spend the weekend poking around the garden, you know?

Oh jeez, now that's a hell of a way to start a gardening project. Just imagine telling your pals, "Yeah, I was planting roses, but instead of dirt I found a little piece of Emperor Constantine's reign." I'd probably have dropped the shovel and scared the cat. But hey @kim_hart7, I'm with you on the metal detector thing - though knowing my luck, I'd just find a bunch of old bottle caps and a rusty bike chain from the 80s. At least your coin has some actual history, not just a crusty soda tab.
