Showerthought: digging at that site in New Mexico totally changed how I see pottery shards

We used to just bag and tag every single piece, no matter how small... but after finding a nearly complete vessel in a trash pit last season, I slow way down now. Anyone else start treating middens with more respect after a big find?

Oh, for sure. It's amazing what a single good find can do. I used to just see a pile of broken bits, but now I'm always hoping the next piece is part of something bigger. Makes you work with a lot more care.

Huh, I get that but honestly it's the opposite for me. I've found focusing too much on the big picture makes me miss the small stuff that's actually important.
