My local anime club's discussion format changed everything last month
We used to just talk about whatever show we watched that week, but our president in Atlanta switched it to a single theme, like 'best redemption arcs'. It forced us to dig deeper and compare notes across different series. Anyone else's group try something similar to get past surface-level chat?

That "single theme" idea reminds me of when my book club tried picking a genre instead of a specific book... it got surprisingly heated.

Book clubs can turn into battlefields over the smallest things. Choosing a whole genre leaves way too much room for argument. People get attached to their favorite styles and take it as a personal attack. It's amazing how a plan meant to be more open can cause more fights. I'm not surprised it got heated at all.
