Can we talk about how everyone says to watch Cowboy Bebop first but I think that's terrible advice for new anime fans
I told my buddy to start with Bebop last month and he bounced off anime completely. Said it was too slow and he didn't get the hype. Then I made him watch Death Note and he binged the whole thing in 3 days. I was the guy always saying start with the classics but that only works if someone already likes the genre. What made me realize I was wrong was when my nephew asked for something like My Hero Academia and I tried to push Samurai Champloo on him. He sat through 4 episodes looking bored. Finally I just asked him what he actually wanted to watch and he said stuff with tournaments and powers. So we watched Haikyuu and he loved it. Now I ask people what they already like before recommending anything. Has anyone else figured out they're bad at recommending shows?

Drove my friend home after a night shift once and he asked what anime to start with. I hyped up Cowboy Bebop because it's what everyone says to watch. He texted me the next day saying he fell asleep halfway through episode two and didn't touch another anime for six months. Finally got him to watch Prison School of all things because he loves dumb comedies and he finished it in one weekend. Now I figure out what shows or movies they already like before recommending anything.

Nah, Bebop's not for everyone. Tried showing it to my buddy who loves action movies and he was bored too. Prison School is actually a wild choice but hey, whatever gets them hooked. Match the vibe, not the hype.
