Update: That time I overthought every email tone for 3 years

I used to rewrite work emails 5 times trying to sound professional, then my boss in Dallas told me just copy how you talk and now I send them in 2 minutes flat - has anyone else spent way too long on a simple message?

You said 'some people overthink it cuz they're trying to sound like someone they're not' and THAT is exactly what I was doing for way too long. I would read emails from people with fancy titles and try to copy their style, but it came out stiff and wrong every time. Did you ever have that moment where you realized the person you were mimicking actually sounded terrible too, and that's when you finally stopped? Because I swear my old boss wrote the most boring emails on planet earth, and I was trying to copy that for months before I snapped out of it.

Oh man, the real trick is learning when to ignore tone completely - some people overthink it cuz they're trying to sound like someone they're not, but your boss was totally right.
