Switched all my door contacts from screw terminals to crimp connectors in January and callbacks dropped to zero
I did a test run on a 12 zone ranch house in Plano back in January. Took me about 20 extra minutes per door, but I have not gone back for a single loose wire since. The screw terminals were always backing out after a few hot summers in the attic. Anybody else made this switch or am I just late to the party?
Read a thread on an alarm tech forum a while back where a guy in Arizona did the same thing after fighting loose screws for years. He said the heat cycling in attics is what kills you, metal expands and contracts and the screws just walk themselves out over time. Crimps don't have that problem since it's one solid connection. Idk if it's the crimp itself or just the fact that you're not relying on a screw staying tight for a decade, but either way the callback math works out.
Buddy of mine down in Texas ran into the exact same thing with his garage door sensors. Every summer he was up on a ladder with a screwdriver, and every fall the screws were loose again. He finally gave up on the screw terminals and crimped everything, and he told me he hasn't touched those connections in three years. What got me was he said the screws weren't even backing out all the way, just enough to break the connection and make it flaky. The weird part is the sensors would work fine for months, so he'd forget about it until the door started acting up again. Crimps just sit there and do their job, no moving parts to worry about.
