Old timer told me to stop using those wireless gyro sensors

Guy I work with, been installing since the 80s, kept telling me the Honeywell 5800 series are bulletproof and those new fancy 2GIG gyros would give me false alarms. I ignored him for 6 months because I liked the app setup. Last Tuesday I got 3 callbacks in one week from a house in Austin where the sensor kept triggering from the cat walking past. Swapped them out for the old 5816s and not a peep since. Anybody else run into this or was I just unlucky with that batch?

Same thing happened to me with a batch of those 2GIG sensors last year, except my cat set them off just by breathing near the door frame lmao. My neighbor still brings it up every time he sees me hauling a ladder, says I should have just bought a litter box instead of new sensors. Lesson learned, I’ll stick with the old Honeywell stuff until they pry my 5816s out of my cold, dead hands.

nah man you're not alone on this. a buddy of mine runs a small alarm company down in San Antonio, been doing it maybe 10 years. he switched his whole fleet to those 2GIG gyro sensors last spring cause the sales rep swore they were the next big thing. first month was a nightmare. he had three different customers calling about false alarms from ceiling fans and even a dog walking by the window. he tracked it down to the gyros being way too sensitive to vibration, like they'd pick up any tiny movement in the wall. swapped them out for 5809s on most of those jobs and it's been smooth sailing ever since. he still has a box of those 2GIG ones sitting in his garage, says he's too embarrassed to even try selling them on ebay.
