I keep seeing guys skip the final walkthrough with the homeowner
It's not just a quick check, you need to show them how to arm the system with their phone and test one sensor together. I had a call back in Austin because a family thought their motion detector was broken, but they just never set it up in the app. Who else makes the client do a hands-on test before you leave?

Seriously, what's the rush that makes guys skip this step? That callback had to eat up more time than a proper walkthrough would have. It just seems like a bad habit that costs everyone later.

Learned that the hard way myself, honestly.

Make them arm and disarm the system with their own phone while you watch. I hand them the device and say "your turn". Had a guy in San Antonio who kept hitting the wrong button on his keypad for a week. We fixed it in two minutes because I saw him do it wrong during the walkthrough. Always test one door or window sensor together so they hear the chime and see the alert.
