Appreciation post: basket style vs tray style air fryers

I finally picked up one of those basket style air fryers last month after using a tray style one for 2 years. My old tray model always made the bottom of my fries soggy no matter what I did. The basket style lets me shake things up halfway through without having to pull out a whole hot tray. Plus I can just dump the basket into a bowl when things are done. The cleanup is way easier too since the basket just goes in the dishwasher. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed a big difference in how even their cooking gets?

Oh man, that's the exact reason I stuck with my basket style when my buddy tried to sell me on his tray one. The shaking thing is huge because it lets you get that even crisp without having to babysit it with tongs. Plus I found that with the basket, air actually flows all around the food compared to the tray where the bottom just sits there. I never thought about the soggy bottom problem that way but that makes total sense now that you mention it.

Wait, you're telling me you actually thought about the soggy bottom problem from a completely different angle? I've never heard anyone break it down like that, but now it's all I can think about every time I use a tray. You might have just ruined tray air fryers for me forever.

Man, you hit the nail on the head with the airflow thing. That's the main reason I can't go back to a tray style either, the bottom of the food always feels sad and greasy by the time the top is done. Really glad someone else gets why the basket just works better for everyday cooking.
