Totally get that. Flipping pages back and forth to find a step was its own puzzle. Now it's just mindless tapping.

Honestly that's a cool hack for a pinch, but it seems like a temporary fix at best. The materials probably won't hold up for long with repeated use. Tbh I'd still just fix the proper forge.

Oh man, I forget to soak beans all the time. My go-to quick fix is to cover them with plenty of water, bring it to a hard boil for two full minutes, then kill the heat and put a lid on. Let them sit in that hot water for an hour. Drain that, then cook them like normal. It's not perfect but it gets you fed without waiting a whole day.

Totally agree, that's way too long. Watching the skin, not the clock, is key.
