inFixing the home stairs while my dad watched reminded me of hoistway inspections
Totally get that sixth sense thing benlewis mentioned. My brain does the same scan now, and I catch myself doing it at the weirdest times. I was at my buddy's house and just stared at his deck railing for a full minute, mentally checking the lag bolts. He thought I was zoning out. It's a problem, but like you said, it's also stupid useful. You just know when something isn't right.

inScaffold sensor failure from rushed software updates
A whole bay reading zero while fully loaded is insane, lol. That's how people get killed.

inI never told about wood flaws until a friend's cabinet failed
Man, that really stinks... furniture falling apart when you least expect it. Had a similar thing happen with an old bookshelf once... just collapsed out of nowhere. Makes you lose trust in everything you own, you know? Now I'm paranoid about checking all the joints and screws on stuff. It's like a betrayal from something that's supposed to just sit there and hold your things. Hope your friend's dresser didn't ruin anything too important.
