A chat with an old man at the dump station clarified my water system woes.

He saw me struggling with my freshwater tank hookup. Told me about his years in a camper van and how he fixed leaks with easy clamps. Now I check all my connections twice before hitting the road. His tip about using marine-grade hose for cold weather really helped.

Isn't some of that knowledge on forums though?

But don't you find a lot of that old-timer wisdom does end up online eventually? I see it all the time in the comments on gardening youtube videos or in really niche forum threads. Someone's grandpa's trick for fixing a specific engine knock gets typed out by their grandson. It just lives in weird corners of the internet, not always where you'd first look. Makes me want to save those forum posts before they get lost.

Have you ever noticed how the best fixes come from people who've been there? I see this all the time at my local hardware store. Old-timers will show you how to patch a roof leak with stuff you already have. Or at the community garden, retirees share secrets for growing tomatoes that actually work. It's like there's this whole world of practical knowledge passed down in casual chats. Makes me wonder what we lose when we only rely on google for answers.
