Finally stopped sanitizing my homebrew bottles with bleach after 12 batches when a guy at my local shop in Austin showed me Star San.

Turns out bleach leaves a residue that can kill your yeast and leave off flavors, and I just thought my IPAs all tasted like band-aids because of bad water or something - has anyone else been doing it the wrong way for way too long?

and that band-aid taste thing is exactly what i was getting too, but i never tied it to the bottles specifically. did you ever try just rinsing more or did you go straight to switching? i'm curious because i've got some friends who swear by a triple rinse with hot water after bleach and say it's fine, but maybe they just don't notice the off flavors.

Oh man, that triple rinse thing sounds like a huge pain, but did you ever actually taste the difference side by side with your friends to see if they're just missing it?
