Hot take: A thrift store train set changed my mind about old toys and sibling dynamics
I always assumed second-hand toys were just clutter, but I grabbed a wooden train set on a whim last week. Watching my kids, who normally compete over everything, work together to build an elaborate track was eye-opening. It wasn't about the toy itself, but how it facilitated teamwork I hadn't seen before. Now I'm scanning for more collaborative play items during my hauls.

My sister's kids, Leo and Mia, used to fight constantly over their tablet time. I always thought hand-me-down toys were just junk, in my experience, until I saw them play with an old puzzle from a garage sale. Watching them collaborate to solve it without a single argument was a revelation. They started taking turns, pointing out pieces to each other, and even celebrated together when they finished. It made me realize that sometimes the simplest, oldest items can foster cooperation in ways shiny new gadgets don't, your mileage may vary.

@masonr48, so the secret to world peace is a garage sale puzzle? I guess we should all ditch our tablets for dusty board games.
