I used to avoid treat training, but my coworker's success with her cat changed my view.

How did your coworker's cat react to the treats at first? I had a similar turn with my beagle who ignored commands, but small chunks of cooked chicken got him to come every time. @the_sandra, that hot dog method reminds me of how fast food rewards can change behavior. It was all about using really tiny pieces so he stayed eager to learn.

Yeah Nathan you're so right about the tiny pieces keeping them eager. My coworker's cat was totally ignoring the store bought treats at first, but then she tried little bits of real tuna. Complete turn around. I mean cats can be so picky but it's wild how high value treats work the same for them as dogs. Makes you realize animal training isn't that different across species idk.

My friend had trouble for months with her rescue dog not listening. She watched a video on treat training and gave it a go. With small pieces of hot dog, she got her dog to sit and stay in just a week. The dog's act got so much better that walks were fun, not a fight. That made me change my mind about using food in training. What was the first trick your coworker taught her cat?
