Did you know dolphins can echolocate through sand to find buried prey?

Actually @nathan282, I heard that's more for muddy water than actual sand.

Sarah's onto something with the muddy water point. Echolocation helps dolphins see in dark or cloudy water where their eyes are useless. Sand probably messes up the sound waves too much for it to work well. They might use their noses to root around in the sand instead of relying on sonar. It's cool how they switch up their hunting based on the environment. Their real talent is making do with whatever the ocean throws at them.
