Vent: Had to argue for gene editing at a friend's barbecue

Everyone acts like tweaking genes is playing god and will doom us all. I brought up how it could end diseases like my family's history of cancer, and the whole group got real quiet. Felt pretty awkward pushing back on the fear vibe.

Why do some people see a genealogy test as a fun surprise but view gene editing as a scary line to cross? It's all just information about our own code, like what @zarabailey hinted at with those test results. The real question is whether we use that knowledge to fix problems or just to learn about them.
