Look, I get the hate for pineapple on pizza, but have you actually tried it with salty olives? The sweet and salty thing works. Maybe your date is onto something. People get so mad about food rules but half the classics started as weird combos. Deep dish is already a big messy experiment, so why not go all the way? Honestly, gatekeeping pizza toppings is more boring than any topping could ever be.

Just order half with pineapple and half without. That's what we do when my friend visits, and nobody has to get mad about it.

You said gatekeeping pizza toppings is boring. But what if someone just honestly thinks pineapple tastes bad on pizza? Is that still gatekeeping, or just a personal taste thing?
