Just realized fruit and lettuce should never be a combo
I don't get why so many people think fruit belongs in green salads. It turns a good salad into a wet, sweet mess. Last time I ordered one, the mango pieces made everything soggy within minutes. Places should ask before adding fruit, not assume everyone likes it. I'm tired of my lunch being ruined by this trend.

That Thai place on 7th Street does a papaya salad that completely changed my mind. It's got this spicy lime dressing that cuts through the sweetness.

Papaya salad like the one you described, @the_nathan, shows how good food needs a mix of flavors. It's like a lot of things in life where opposites make each other better. Think about how a cold drink tastes best on a hot day, or how a funny movie can lift your mood after a long week. Those contrasts create a fuller experience. That spicy lime cutting through sweetness is what makes the dish stand out. We see this pattern everywhere once you start looking for it.

But what if something is just good because it's simple? I mean idk, sometimes that contrast thing feels forced. Maybe it's just me but a really good mango sticky rice doesn't need any spicy lime, it's perfect being sweet and creamy. Not every dish has to be a balancing act.
