Just found out how many square feet of vinyl plank we throw away on an average job
I was cleaning out my truck after a big install in Charlotte and decided to weigh all the cut-off pieces and packaging from the last five jobs. Added it up and it came to over 400 pounds of waste, mostly from the planks we have to trim to fit. I read a trade magazine article that said installers can waste up to 10% of the material on a complex layout, which seems crazy high. Has anyone found a good way to cut down on this, or do you just accept it as part of the job?

Guess that's why they call it "cutting" the floor in, not "using" it.

But isn't the whole point to use the material? A good cut is just the first step to making sure the flooring actually works and lasts. If you don't use it right after cutting it in, you've just made a very expensive template. The skill is in both cutting and applying it as a finished surface.
