Bought the whole 'Game of Thrones' book set after the show ended, still waiting on that last one

I spent about $120 on the hardcover box set back in 2019, thinking the final book would be out soon after the TV finale. It's been years and I'm just staring at this incomplete series on my shelf. Anyone else feel like they got burned waiting for a story to actually finish?

What's the shelf life on hope? Mine's been collecting dust next to that same box set. At this point, I'm using the empty space where book seven should go as a coaster.

My sister's box set still has the plastic wrap on it, morganm69. She says keeping that space empty is the whole point, like a monument to waiting.

Watched my friend finally give up last year. He took the empty book slot and slid in a thin photo of the author. Said it was less about hope and more about making the shelf look finished. The weird thing is, he seems way less bothered by the wait now. He just shrugs and says the series is a six book set with a weird bookmark.
