A homeowner in Fort Collins told me my post holes looked like a toddler dug them

This was about five years ago on a cedar fence job. The guy came out, pointed at my holes, and said they were too wide and the dirt was piled too high. He was right, I was rushing. I switched to a 6-inch auger bit instead of my old 8-inch and started using a tarp for the spoil. It added maybe 30 minutes to the setup, but the cleanup was faster and the posts set straighter. Anyone else get called out on something basic that actually improved your whole process?

Oof, that "toddler dug them" line would have stuck with me too lol. It's wild how one blunt comment can actually fix your whole method. Switching to the smaller auger and using a tarp sounds so simple, but it's exactly that kind of basic tweak that makes everything else go smoother. Good on you for actually listening and changing it up, some guys would have just gotten mad.

Gotta admit, @clairee88, it's just a hole in the ground. Not sure it's a whole life lesson.

Honestly, brutal feedback works sometimes.
