Saw my old bomber jacket collection change after 2 years in a humid apartment
Moved to Austin for a job in 2022 and kept my leather jackets in a cheap closet without a dehumidifier. The leather went stiff and some zippers rusted up within 18 months. Anyone else had gear get wrecked by climate they didn't plan for?

Man that sucks, honestly. Moved to Florida a few years back and my suede jacket got all moldy within one summer because I didn't know humidity could wreck it that fast. The zippers on my favorite Levi's jacket froze up too, had to get them replaced at a shoe repair place. Tbh I think the leather stiffening is the worst part, feels like you're wearing cardboard after a while. Hope you can salvage some of them with some leather conditioner and a good brushing.

Yeah, humidity's just another way everything falls apart faster now.

Buddy of mine had a leather jacket he got from his dad, vintage 70s thing. Moved to Houston for work and within six months the whole lining was peeling off from the humidity. The leather itself turned this weird powdery blue color on the back, looked like it had some kind of fungus growing on it. He tried wiping it down with vinegar but it just made the color splotchy and ruined the stitching.
