A fit model told me my blazer sleeves were half an inch too long and it changed everything

I was at a sample fitting in my studio last month and the fit model I hired, Sarah, pointed out that the sleeves on my blazer draft were sitting past her wrist bone. She said it made the whole jacket look sloppy even though I thought it was fine. I trimmed the pattern by half an inch and tried it again on her. The difference was night and day, suddenly the jacket looked polished and intentional. Has anyone else had a small measurement fix totally change a garment's vibe?

Wow! Half an inch really is everything with sleeves.

Half an inch matters? Tell that to the guy who accidentally shrunk a dress shirt in the wash and now looks like he borrowed it from his kid brother. Sleeves are about proportion, not some magic number, so a perfect quarter-inch shift can still look awful if the shoulders are off. You're better off focusing on a good tailor who can fix the whole fit than obsessing over a tiny measurement.
