Turned away a job today over horse welfare concerns
A long-time customer brought their gelding in for new shoes. I noticed the horse was stepping gingerly on its right hind. The owner said it was fine and just needed the shoes done quickly. I told them I couldn't work on a horse that might be injured. They left angry, and I'm worried about the horse now.

Ever think about the legal side of this? If you'd worked on that horse and it got worse, the owner could have blamed you. I had a friend in construction who turned down a job with bad wiring, and the homeowner sued the next guy who touched it. Sometimes saying no is the only way to protect yourself and the animal.

Called a vet friend to check on a horse once.

My neighbor Dave called me last year about his goat acting strange. I had to tell him I just write code, I don't know anything about livestock. He was definitely hoping for a free consult.
