The slow creep of 'convenience' fees on everything

I bought movie tickets online last week for the theater over in Springfield. The tickets themselves were $12 each, but by the time I got to checkout, there was a $3.50 'processing fee' per ticket. That's almost a 30% increase for clicking a few buttons. It feels like this is happening everywhere now, from paying a bill to ordering takeout. You see one price, but the real cost is always hidden until the last second. Has anyone else noticed a specific fee that just made you close the tab and walk away?

Tried to renew my car registration online last month. The "convenience" fee was more than the actual registration. I felt so played I just mailed the stupid form.
