My garage door spring snapped at 6 AM yesterday

I got up early to grab something from the car and heard this loud TWANG sound. The spring on my garage door broke clean in half, left the door stuck halfway open. I had to call a repair guy who charged me $280 to replace both springs since he said you always do them in pairs. Has anyone else had a spring break on them out of nowhere?

I read somewhere that those springs have about 10,000 cycles in them.

10,000 cycles huh? I guess my garage door just hit its expiration date at 6 AM with a soundtrack. Guess the previous owner didn't warn me, so thanks @the_daniel for the heads up I got way too late." "Guess I'll start counting my cycles now, maybe set a calendar reminder for year 2030. At least you got a good story out of it - I just got a $280 bill and a sore back from staring at the thing.
