Just realized I've been wrapping extension cords wrong my whole life

I was at my dad's place last weekend helping him clean out his garage, and he showed me this trick for coiling extension cords that actually stops them from tangling. He said to loop it over-under instead of just wrapping it around my elbow, and I swear it came out perfect on the first try. I've been dealing with knotted cords on job sites for like 6 years and nobody ever told me this simple fix. It took maybe 30 seconds to learn and now I can wrap a 50 foot cord in under a minute without any kinks. Has anyone else found a basic skill you thought you knew but were totally doing wrong?
