Rant: Chose the cheap brake shoes on a MOD last month, now I'm back on site

Had to pick between OEM Otis brake shoes and the aftermarket ones for a 2002 elevator retrofit in St. Louis. I went with the aftermarket because they were $180 cheaper and the supplier swore they were the same. Now I'm here on a Saturday replacing them because they wore uneven in 3 weeks and the car's been jerking on landings. The OEM shoes would have cost more upfront but saved me this headache. Has anyone else had bad luck with non-OEM brake parts on older units?

Man, I feel your pain. I once saved fifty bucks on some off-brand guide rails for a job and the car sounded like a dying cat for two months before I finally caved. Learned the hard way that cheap parts just cost you more time and sanity in the end.

Called Otis direct after that same mistake @kai657, their part number 5432 is the only fix for pre-2005 brakes.
