Hit 500 elevator rescues this week and it made me think about all the dumb things people do in stuck cabs

Got my log book out and counted 500 calls for entrapments since I started, and I swear half of them could've been avoided if folks just stopped prying the doors or hitting every button when the power flickers, anyone else noticing more false alarms from those newer MCP touchscreens?

I've found those touchscreens are terrible for false alarms, especially when people lean on them during a power bump. What worked for me was getting management to put up a small sign that says "don't touch the screen during a flicker" right next to the panel. It cut our nuisance calls by maybe a third after a few months.

That reminds me of a fire station I visited a few years back. They had a similar problem with people accidentally setting off the alarm when leaning against the panel during a voltage dip. The chief there said he ended up installing a small plastic guard over the screen. It was just a piece of clear plexiglass with a cutout for the menu button. People still had to intentionally reach around it to activate anything. He said it worked better than any sign because folks didn't read the signs anyway. Sometimes the physical barrier is the only thing that sticks.
