Can we talk about whether it's worth fixing cheap HDMI switchers or just tossing them?

I had a 4 port HDMI switcher go bad on me last Saturday. It's a $25 no-name brand from Amazon. One of the ports just stopped passing signal, no power surge or anything. I cracked it open, looked at the board, saw some cold solder joints on the HDMI connector. Reflowed them with my iron, took maybe 20 minutes, and it worked again. But here's the thing - is my time even worth that? I could have just bought another for $25 and been done. On the other hand, that's more e-waste. What do you guys do with cheap gear like that? Fix it or trash it?

Totally hear you on the e-waste guilt, that's the main reason I usually try to fix stuff too. Walker.hayden is right though, now you've got that skill for next time.

Yeah but now you know how to fix the next one in five minutes.
