A customer's offhand remark about flux changed my whole process

I used to lay down a heavy coat of flux on every board, thought more was better. A guy waiting on a rush repair watched me and said 'you're drowning the joints, not cleaning them'. I switched to a thin brush application last month and my rework rate dropped from around 15% to maybe 3%. Has anyone else found that less flux actually speeds up their touch-up time on older boards?

Man, that hits close to home. I've been guilty of the same thing, thinking a thick coat meant I was being thorough. It took way too long for me to learn that less is often more with flux, especially on those older boards. Glad you found the sweet spot, that rework drop is no joke.
