Saw the wiring in a 1920s Seattle bungalow and it flipped my view on old work

I mean, the cloth insulation was basically dust, but the metal boxes and the way they ran everything was super clean. Anyone else run into old installs that made you respect the craftsmanship?

Got to disagree a bit here. That clean work you saw was probably done by a real pro, but for every one of those there were ten scary hack jobs hidden in the walls. My uncle's a contractor and the stories he tells... @morgan915, I get the feeling about old tools, but wiring is different. They used what they had, and a lot of it wasn't safe by today's ideas. It's cool to find the good ones, but I don't miss the cloth wire or the old fuse boxes at all.

Notice how older stuff often had more care put into it. My grandma's old kitchen tools are built like tanks compared to the plastic junk today. Feels like we traded lasting quality for cheap and fast.
