Took me 2 months to stop fighting the current on the Mississippi bend

Kept burning fuel and wearing out the cutterhead pointing straight into the flow near Cape Girardeau. A old hand told me to angle the ladder 15 degrees and let the river do half the work, so I tried it on a 500 foot stretch and the cycle time dropped by almost a third. Has anyone else adjusted their swing technique around strong currents, or is this something they teach in schools now?

Took me three years to figure out that one, and I only learned it after spinning my boat in a full circle like a confused washing machine.
