Question about running twin 8-inch pipes vs a single 12-inch on a small dredge

I spent last summer on the Missouri River near Kansas City running a 4-inch dredge with a single 8-inch discharge line and kept fighting clogs whenever the gravel got chunky. A buddy on the next claim over was using twin 8-inch pipes off the same pump and his material moved way smoother with less downtime. Has anyone else dealt with choosing between twin lines and a single bigger pipe for clearing tough spots?

Kinda like running two smaller pumps instead of one big one, less chance of everything jamming at once.

Actually two pumps means twice as many parts that can break individually.
