Debate: Is a $900 spare pump stack worth it or just dead weight on the barge?

I dropped $900 on a backup cutterhead pump assembly last spring after our main one seized up during a job in Baton Rouge. That spare saved us a 3-day shutdown when the primary went again in October, so I'm leaning it paid for itself. But another operator I talked to swears he's never needed one in 12 years and just runs a rebuild kit. Anyone else carry a full spare stack, or do you roll the dice and eat the downtime cost?

Run the numbers on your daily rate, $900 is nothing if it saves one shutdown.
