Tried using a laser level for the first time on a kitchen remodel last Tuesday

Spent 45 minutes lining it up perfect, only to realize the floor was sloped and my line was off by a full inch. Has anyone else had a laser level totally betray them like that?

Did you check the floor slope before mounting the laser?

Spent half an hour leveling a shelf once, only to find the wall was crooked the whole time.
